Supplies you’ll need
Cleaning your weed pen doesn’t require much.
- Isopropyl alcohol (a higher percentage as 91% works better)
- Cotton swabs or pipe cleaners
- Paper towels
- Small brushes or other tools to reach tight areas
- Optional: toothpicks, tweezers, silicone caps
Unload and disassemble the pen
You should unload and store your battery away from liquids before cleaning it. Remove the mouthpiece, cartridge, battery, and other components. Depending on your model, you may need to refer to the user manual.
Wipe away residue
Use paper towels dampened with isopropyl alcohol to remove readily accessible residue in the chambers or mouthpiece. Cotton swabs dipped in alcohol help scrub away stubborn buildup in tight areas. Be gentle when scrubbing electrical contacts or connections. Try to avoid getting moisture into any openings on the battery or cartridge.
Soak components in alcohol
For more thorough cleaning, disassembled components are soaked in isopropyl alcohol to dissolve hardened residue. Glass or ceramic cartridges and mouthpieces are safe to soak. Avoid soaking any plastic components, rubber gaskets, or the battery. Let parts soak for 10-30 minutes then rinse with water and dry completely. The alcohol will evaporate quickly, but be sure no moisture remains before reassembling.
Clean airflow pathways
One area that’s prone to clogging is the airflow pathways through the weed pen. Pass pipe cleaners, brushes, or toothpicks soaked in alcohol through the mouthpiece and cartridge air holes. Don’t force anything that won’t fit easily through openings to avoid damage. The goal is to clear any blockages without scraping or scouring the air channels.
Freshen seals and gaskets
Rubbing alcohol dries out and degrades rubber or silicone gaskets meant to seal vape connections. After cleaning, rejuvenate these components by rubbing a tiny amount of food-grade vegetable oil on seals and gaskets. It keeps them flexible and airtight.
Rinse and dry
Once all components are scrubbed, soaked, and cleaned, give them a final rinse under running water and allow them to dry fully. Inspect closely for any remaining residue and repeat cleaning if needed. Ensure all components are fully dried before reattaching batteries and handling electronics. Assemble once all parts are dry and free of alcohol.
Test functionality
Before loading any cannabis oils, do a dry test run of your freshly cleaned vape pen. Test the button functions, airflow draw, and look for any abnormalities. It allows you to spot any lingering issues before potentially contaminating your THC oils.
